How to Apply

Ready to make a difference at Denver Health? Our dedicated volunteers provide comfort and companionship to patients, families, and visitors, and we thank you for your interest!

Before applying, please make sure you meet the following criteria:

  1. All applicants must be 16 years or older.
  2. All ongoing volunteer opportunities require applicants to commit to 6 months or 100 hours.
  3. All applicants must complete the onboarding process within 3 months of applying.

Onboarding Process

Step 1: Complete a formal volunteer application

Step 2: Complete eLearning modules, read the Volunteer Handbook and Complete Volunteer Paperwork through our online portal

Step 3: Attend a Virtual Interview

Step 4: Complete a Medical Screening

  • All volunteers are required to have the following vaccines: MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B antibodies or immunization, Tdap within the last 10 years, Influenza each flu season, and a negative TB test within the last year. If you do not have your immunization records or are missing immunizations, COSH will provide titer tests and assist you in fulfilling the required immunizations.

Step 5: Complete Role Specific eLearning modules

Step 6: Complete Background Check (for applicants 18+)

Step 7: Sign-up and attend a Volunteer Tour, receive your Volunteer Badge & Uniform Shirt

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any cost associated with becoming a volunteer at Denver Health?

There is a one-time fee of $20 for the polo shirt that is part of the uniform for all Denver Health volunteers.

How long does the process take?

Depending on the role, this process can take a month or longer to complete. To speed the process, it is helpful to gather your immunization records before your medical screening appointment. It is also helpful to gather the addresses and dates where you have resided and worked for the last 5 years to quickly and easily complete the background screening forms.

Does Denver Health allow job shadowing/internships?

Our job shadowing and educational internship programs are managed by our Office of Education.

Does Denver Health accept Clinical Volunteers?

Clinical Volunteers are managed by our Medical Staffing Office at 303-602-2715.

Will volunteering help me get a job at Denver Health?

Can I complete court-ordered hours at DH?

No, Denver Health cannot sign off on court-ordered community service.

Are there any group volunteer opportunities?

Yes! For small groups, we have a variety of volunteer opportunities, including packing bags for our Newborns in Need program. Most packing sessions last 2 hours and can be scheduled by contacting Sharon Mushkin at Sharon.Mushkin@dhha.org or 303-602-2985.
