Training Future Leaders in OB-GYN Hospitalists
Denver Health is a large safety-net hospital for the city of Denver performing over 4,200 deliveries in the past year. Denver Health is a main teaching affiliate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine and has residents and students rotating throughout the institution. The department of OB-GYN has 13 University of Colorado residents rotating at Denver Health at any one time.
Denver Health has seen significant clinical growth in the past two years related to the influx of population of the city of Denver. The department of OB-GYN is wholly dedicated to providing quality care to all patients who walk in the door of Denver Health. Patients served by the OB-GYN department speak over 23 different languages, most commonly Spanish and English. The department prides itself on its collaborative care model with a focus on patient safety and standardization of care, making it an ideal training site for OB-GYN hospitalists.
The primary goal of the fellowship is to train future leaders in OB-GYN hospitalist medicine. Secondary goals include:
- To supplement the training of an OB-GYN with the systems level leadership of an OB-GYN hospitalist.
- To gain expertise as team leader during Ob and Gyn emergencies.
- To better understand the role of an OB-GYN hospitalist in creating health care equity.
- To gain experience in implementation of QI standards, protocols, and patient safety initiatives.
- To learn about practicing in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team model
Graduates of the fellowship will be prepared to work at high- or low-resourced institutions as a confident and competent OB-GYN hospitalist.
Fellowship leadership and many of the faculty are active in the Society of OB-GYN Hospitalists (SOGH) and are involved with the nationwide plan for fellowship accreditation. Interview season is conducted in coordination with other fellowship around the country.
