Denver Health has four critical care units to serve our patients. Each unit has state-of-the-art equipment and a professional medical staff that is experienced in providing intensive care services.
Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
The adult MICU at Denver Health is a 24-bed unit staffed by a team of critical care doctors, nurses, therapists, and other interdisciplinary specialists. The team provides expert, compassionate care with respect to our patients’ unique and changing needs.
MICU Mission
- Provide safe, expert care that respects the patient’s unique and changing needs.
- Support the patient’s family and friends.
- Care for patients and their families with compassion, teamwork, accountability and trust.
- Advance the science of critical illness to improve the care for our patients.
Visiting Hours
The MICU has open visiting. Patient visits are welcome 24 hours, seven days a week. At certain times we may request that you leave the room briefly; during the shift change at 7 am and 7 pm or while we are giving care.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The NICU is designed for full-term and premature newborns in need of intensive care services in a secure unit with large private and semi-private rooms. The NICU has a staff of experienced neonatologists and neonatology nurses. Learn more
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
The PICU provides intensive care for children of all ages in a secure unit with all private rooms. The pediatric health care team consists of pediatricians, family physicians, surgeons, nurses and other specialists that are specially trained to care for children. Learn more
Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
The SICU at Denver Health is a highly specialized intensive care unit where the hospital's most critically ill patients recover from trauma injuries and emergency surgeries. The SICU is staffed by specialty trauma nurses and trauma physicians to provide our patients with the best possible care. The SICU welcomes patient visitors except for during designated quiet times (2:00-3:30pm and 6:30-8:00 pm daily).
