Denver Health Medical Center's Cardiology Division is committed to providing high quality cardiovascular care through a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services as well as specialized programs.

The Cardiology division was recognized in September 2006, by the American Heart Association for achievement in using the Get With The Guidelinessm quality improvement program. This program ensures that the care provided to patients with coronary heart disease and heart failure is aligned with the latest scientific guidelines.

Denver Health has two new, state-of-the-art labs for both cardiac catheterization/ intervention and electrophysiologic testing and intervention.

Outpatient Clinics

Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory: In the new catheterization laboratory, the division provides diagnostic angiography.

Electrophysiology Laboratory: In a state-of-the-art biplane laboratory, electrophysiology staff perform complex ablations including atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia ablations; permanent pacemaker implants (including bi-ventricular devices); and implantable cardioverter defibrillators.

Cardiac Care Unit: Within the Medical Intensive Care Unit, specialized care is offered to patients with critical cardiac disease.

Comprehensive Cardiovascular Prevention Programs for the Medically Underserved

  • Cardiovascular Risk Reduction/Get With The Guidelinessm Program: This program is designed to provide close follow-up for patients recently hospitalized with cardiovascular events during the transition to the outpatient setting.
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation Program: This program, funded by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, is a unique, individualized, patient-centered program offered to patients with heart disease and heart failure. The exercise-based program is up to 12 weeks long and includes monitored exercise training by an exercise physiologist and registered nurse, coordinated with patient education and risk factor management customized for each patient.
