Robert House, M.D., is the Director of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center.  He is also an Associate Professor and Vice-Chairman representing Denver Health Medical Center for the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He is board-certified in Psychiatry and Neurology and a distinguished Fellow with the American Psychiatric Association.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Denver and Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine.  He completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He also completed a Fellowship in Consult Liaison Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He is a Colonel, Medical Corps, United States Army Reserve and Command Surgeon, 96th Regional Readiness Command, Ft. Douglas, Utah.

Vincent Collins, M.D., is the Associate Director of Behavioral for Denver Health Medical Center.  He is also a visiting Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  Following his undergraduate education from Yale University, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.  He completed his residency training in pediatrics and in psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He is board-certified in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.  Research interests and areas of clinical expertise include post-traumatic stress disorder, somatoform disorders, and cross-cultural psychiatry.

John Peterson, M.D., is the Director of Inpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center.  He is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz and Doctorate of Medicine from the University of California, San Francisco.  He completed his residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He is board-certified in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.  His research interests include suicidal and self-injurious behavior in adolescents.

Richard Martinez, M.D., M.H., is the Director of Forensic Psychiatry of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center. He is also an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Director of the Forensic Training Program. He received his Undergraduate Degree from Tulane University and a Master's Degree in Humanities from the University of Colorado at Denver.  He obtained his Doctorate of Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Medicine.  He completed fellowships in bioethics and professional ethics from Harvard University, and completed a psychiatry residency and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He has published articles in forensic psychiatry, medical ethics, and a book on professional ethics in forensic psychiatry.

Christian Thurstone, M.D., is an attending physician with the Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment, Education, and Prevention Program of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center.  His is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He received his undergraduate degree in physics and math from Duke University and his medical degree from the University of Chicago.  He completed general psychiatry residency at Northwestern University Medical School, child psychiatry residency at the University of Chicago, and addiction psychiatry fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He is board-certified in General Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Addiction Psychiatry.  His research interests include medication development for adolescent substance use disorders.

Mary Stephenson, M.D., is the Director of Outpatient Psychiatric Child and Adolescent Services of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center.  She is also an Instructor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  She received her undergraduate degree from Ohio State University and obtained her medical degree from Wright State University School of Medicine.  She completed her residency in general psychiatry and her Child and Adolescent Fellowship at the University of Louisville.  She is board-certified in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

 

Karen V. Fukutaki, M.D., is an attending psychiatrist of Behavioral Health and a psychiatrist with the Infectious Disease Clinic for Denver Health Medical Center.  She earned her undergraduate degree from Yale College and her master's degree from Colorado State University.  She received her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Colorado.  Her experience includes working in inpatient, outpatient, and correctional settings.  She is board-certified in General Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry.

 

Douglas Ikelheimer, M.D., is a board-certified staff psychiatrist and the Medical Director of Psychiatric Emergency Services for Denver Health Medical Center.  He is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  His specialties include addiction and emergency psychiatry.  He obtained his Doctorate of Medicine from the State University of New York at Sony Brook, and then received his Master's in Behavioral Neuroscience from Columbia University.  He completed his internship and psychiatry residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center before completing his training in addiction psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

 

David Weiss, M.D., is a staff psychiatrist of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center.  He is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder.  He completed his residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences, where he also obtained his Doctorate of Medicine.  He is board-certified in Psychiatry.

 

Abraham Nussbaum, M.D., M.T.S., is an attending physician on the adult inpatient service, and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. After growing up in Colorado Springs, he received his undergraduate degree in religion and English literature from Swarthmore College. He earned a master’s degree in Medicine and Theology from Duke Divinity School. He completed medical school and general psychiatry residency at the University of North Carolina. His research interests include meta-analyses for antipsychotics and the history of psychiatry.                                                                                                    

  Charles Shuman, M.D., is a Psychiatrist as well as the Medical Director for Substance Use Disorders Services of Denver Health.  He also holds a position as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Denver Health Sciences Center.  He received his undergraduate education, as well as attended medical school, at Temple University.  From there he completed his residency at the University of Florida.  Dr. Shuman became board certified with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry in 2007.  In 2009, he completed his Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Colorado Denver and Health Sciences Center.  Dr. Shuman currently specializes in Addiction Psychiatry.

J. Craig Holland, M.D., is a staff psychiatrist for the Outpatient Behavioral Health Services (OBHS). His primary practice at Denver Health is psychopharmacology or the medication management of psychiatric illness. He is a native of Colorado, and received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Colorado. His initial training in Washington D.C. was in Internal Medicine at George Washington University Hospital and later Endocrinology and Metabolism at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. His Psychiatry residency was at Tripler Army Medical Center. He was in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for 24 years and retired as a Colonel. He practiced for 28 years at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii before returning to Colorado in 2008. Dr. Holland is board certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, and Psychiatry. He also carried the added qualification in medical Geriatrics from 1992 to 2002. He is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Chris Sheldon

Christopher Sheldon, Ph.D., is the Chief Psychologist and Predoctoral Internship Training Director of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center.  He is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He received his undergraduate degree with a major in Philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin.  He was awarded his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.  His research includes treatment of child and adolescent aggressive behavior, self-injurious behavior in youth, and improving the identification and treatment of psychiatric disorders in primary care.

Laura Jacobs

Laura Jacobs, Psy.D, is a Psychologist and the Outpatient Child/Adolescent Team Leader of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center.  She received her Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver and has been a licensed Psychologist since 1999.  She has also been an Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center since 2005.  Her areas of treatment interest include trauma in young children, school-based mental health, firesetting, and self-injurious behavior in youth.

John Martinez

John A. Martinez, Ph.D, is a Psychologist of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center. He attended St. Mary's University of San Antonio, TX for undergraduate and graduate studies in basic science and philosophy.  He completed his clinical psychology internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and his doctoral training in clinical psychology from the University of Denver.  Dr. Martinez' research experience includes work at the Southwest Foundation for Research and Education, San Antonio, TX, and human factors research at Brooks Air Force Base School of Aerospace Medicine, San Antonio, TX.  He currently has faculty appointments at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

Alison Lieberman, Ph.D, is a Clinical Psychologist and Acting Outpatient Adult Mental Health Team Leader of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center.  She is also an Instructor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont and her master's degree from the University of Denver Graduate School of Professional Psychology.  Her internship was completed at the Miami Veterans Administration Medical Center.  Her specialty is Adult and Health Psychology.

Chris Pierce

Christopher Pierce, Ph.D, is the Neuropsychologist of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center. He is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He received his Doctoral Degree in Medical (Clinical) Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He specialized in neuropsychology during his Internship at the University of Washington School of Medicine.  He completed his Residency in Neuopsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology from the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan.  His research interests include the effects of psychostimulants on cognition, visual neglect and attention, and general neurocognitive assessment.

James Bartsch

Jim Bartsch, Ph.D, is a Psychologist with the Outpatient Adult Mental Health team and Adult Inpatient Psychiatry of Behavioral Health for Denver Health Medical Center.  He is also a Senior Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Wyoming, and obtained his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a minor in Behavioral Neurology from Louisiana State University. He completed post-doctoral training in family therapy at the Galveston Family Institute. Clinical interests include treatment of serious and persistent mental illnesses, brief therapy, treatment of dually diagnosed patients, and supervision.

 

Colleen Fischer, Ph.D, is a licensed psychologist on the Child/Adolescent Team of Behavioral Health at Denver Health Medical Center.  She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She was awarded her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Oregon and completed postdoctoral training at New York Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia and Cornell.  Her areas of treatment and research interest include school-based mental health, anxiety disorders in children and adolescents, neuropsychological and psychological assessment, and self-injurious behavior in youth.
