Ernest "Gene" Moore, MD/FACS/FCCM/FACN
For more than 30 years, Dr. Moore has been a leader at Denver Health, responsible for the care of 2,000 of the Region’s most severely injured trauma victims. Under his direction, the Denver Health Rocky Mountain Regional Trauma Center has been recognized as one of the preeminent Level I Trauma Centers in the country, with the best trauma survival rate in the Rocky Mountain Region (American College of Surgeons).
As further recognition of Dr. Moore’s outstanding commitment to trauma patients around the world, he has been selected as the Editor-elect of the prestigious Journal of Trauma, a role he will fulfill in 2011.

Clay Cothren Burlew, M.D., FACS
Dr. Burlew obtained her medical degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. She completed her residency and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Cothren Burlew is the program director for the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Fellowship program at Denver Health and an associate professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Carlton C. Barnett, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Barnett graduated from Baylor University in 1988 with a degree in Biology. Dr. Barnett then came back to Denver and graduated, with honors, from University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1992 as an M.D.
Dr. Carlton Barnett’s interests are in the areas of Surgical Oncology with plans to start a formal Pancreatico-Hepatobiliary Service at Denver Health. Dr. Barnett is the Director of Surgical Oncology at Denver Health along with the Medical Student Course Director for Denver Health. He is on the Risk Management Committee and is the Chair for the Commission on Cancer Committee for Denver Health. He is also an active member of the University of Colorado Cancer Center.

Walter Biffl, M.D.
Dr. Biffl earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University, and Medical degree from the George Washington University. He performed his surgical training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, including a two-year NIH-sponsored Trauma Research Fellowship. Upon completion of residency he accepted a faculty position at Denver Health Medical Center. He is presently serving as Director of Trauma and Surgical Outreach and Assistant Director of Patient Quality and Safety, as well as Associate Professor and Associate Residency Program Director in the Department of Surgery at University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. His clinical research interests include multiple areas in trauma and critical care, including surgical site infections and other hospital acquired infections. His basic science research focuses on the immune and inflammatory response to injury.

Jeffrey L. Johnson, M.D.
After completing a National Institutes of Health Trauma Research Fellowship at Denver Health Medical Center, Dr. Jeff Johnson, completed his General Surgery training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Johnson has been performing bariatric surgery since 2001. He has been a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons since 2000.
He has advanced training in minimally invasive bariatric surgery and other laparoscopic techniques.
