Pediatric Intensive Care

Denver Health’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides the specialized care for require intensive care during their hospital stay. The pediatric health care team consists of pediatricians, family physicians, surgeons, nurses and other specialists including respiratory, occupational, physical and play therapists that are specially trained to care for the hospital’s sickest children.

The PICU is located in a secure hospital pavilion with private rooms, all equipped with state-of-the-art medical monitoring equipment and a specialized staff located near each room.

Pediatric Intensivists are on staff to provide the best critical care services to all of the PICU patients and provide parents with peace of mind.

Newborn (Neonatal) Intensive Care

This specialized care area is designed for newborns who are in need of intensive care following childbirth. The NICU features both private and semi-private rooms equipped with state-of-the-art medical monitoring equipment and a staff of experienced neonatologists and neonatology nurses stationed nearby.


The NICU is located next to the Labor and Delivery Unit, so new moms can be close to their children and newborns can quickly access the care they need immediately following birth.

Arrangements can be made for a separate sleep room that includes a bathroom and shower for parents of babies that remain in the NICU after the mother is discharged.
