Background:

  • I was born in Ascot, Berkshire, England.
  • Attended University of Wales College of Medicine from 1995-2000.
  • I spend a few years working in Wales and passed my Royal College of Surgeons membership exam at the end of 2003.
  • I was appointed to the Wessex Orthopaedic training program in February 2005.

Accomplishments: 10 published papers and 30 national and international presentations and posters.

Where they are now: A specialist registrar in trauma and orthopaedic in Wessex, UK.

Aspirations: I have a developing interest in trauma surgery and knee surgery. I am planning a further fellowship in a couple of year's time, prior to becoming a consultant.

  • Born in Offenburg, Germany.
  • Medical School of Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Germany.
  • Residency at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, Campus Downtown, Munich, Germany.
  • Research Fellowship at the AO Research Institute, Davos, Switzerland.

Accomplishments: 17 published or accepted peer reviewed papers and 28 national and international presentations and posters.

Where they are now: Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology–Campus Downtown, Munich, Germany.

Aspirations: Use the impressions of the fellowship in Denver to improve my surgical skills. Continue the specialization in shoulder and elbow surgery.

Prakash Bangalore, MD

November 2008 - December 2008

Background:

  • Born in Bangalore, India.
  • Graduated in Medicine from BMC, Bangalore, India in 1987.
  • Obtained Masters degree in Orthopaedics from same institute in 1991.
  • Specializing in total joint replacement since 1995.

Accoplishments: 2 publications and 2 guest lectures in arthroplasty.

Where they are now: BMC, Bangalore, India.

Aspirations:Pelvis acetabular surgeries, hip reconstruction, primary and revision total joint replacement surgery. Actively involved in social work. Hobbies include traveling, reading and hand writing analysis.

Richard Carey Smith, MD

June 2008 - July 2008

Background:

  • St Mary's Hospital Medical School, London for undergraduate and initial postgraduate training. 
  • Cambridge Higher Surgical Training program for 5 years.
  • Fellowship trained in Australia (Perth) and Canada (Vancouver) in arthroplsty and oncology, and Australia (Perth) and UK (Warwick) in knee surgery and cartilage reconstruction.
Accomplishments: Kite surfing improving, as is underwater photography.

Where they are now: Starting practice again in Perth.

Aspirations: Practice to the standards I have been trained incorporating excellence and education, whilst enjoying life.
