5th Annual Stop TB Trot
TB is still one of the world's deadliest diseases.
- About 1/3 of the world's population, and an estimated 11 million persons in the United States are infected with TB.
- Each year, nearly 9 million people around the world become sick with TB and 2 million will die due to TB.
- Without treatment, about 5-10% of infected persons will develop active TB disease at some point in their lives.
- Drug-resistant TB is very difficult and costly to treat. Persons with drug-resistant TB are more likely to die of TB than persons with drug-susceptible TB.
- In Colorado the number of active TB cases is on average 100 per year.
- TB treatment lasts 6 to 24 months. Patients may be unable to work and care for their families for several months.
